In my concept Atlantis is found by a lone explorer in a dystopian world. He delves underwater and becomes lost in a massive submerged cave system. He is saved by a strange young boy. The boy leads him through the waters to a small civilization. The people are all friendly and receptive to him aside from one, a royal handler with a deep respect for the ways of old. She is cautious of him and the longer he stays the more she sees in him the greed and hubris that led to the original downfall of Atlantis.
I am typically an artist who focuses on people, only incorporating vehicles when they are required for the task at hand. I felt that this was a weakness I needed to overcome, so I decided to challenge myself to concept and create a series of vehicles that could all belong in the same world.
There are three dual page spreads whose vehicles are based off of different fungal species, which are their namesakes. The two remaining single page illustrations depict vehicles designed to fit within the fungi based vehicles they are placed after.
A partially developed concept based on a single illustration from a college project.
Lore:
Kira is of a race that is hunted by humans, the Cletre. However, she was raised on a remote planet with no knowledge of this, so when a band of Humans crash lands on her planet she and her tribe offer to help them. As soon as their ship is repaired and Kira is away with Odré, the humans slaughter a number her tribesmen. They abscond the planet, intending for Kira to follow them, so they can lead her to the Cletre hunters. After discovering the devastation and finding her beloved Wren was among the lost, Kira does not disappoint them. She and Odré set off on a quest for answers and revenge.

Emma and Thomas Clark are cousins with totally opposite personalities. Emma is a stone cold sociopath with an apt for cruelty. While Thomas is a clumsy fool with too much trust and not enough sense. The cousins come together to make a unique team and a lot of mayhem.
This concept is one that I really like but have had to put on hold. I would like to return to it at some point, but am not certain that will happen.
I used my book illustration class as an opportunity to explore a concept I started imagining in middle school. I decided to focus on creating characters and developed a character guide over the ten week course.
A collection of random sketches and final images. All concepts that had to be done, but have yet to inspire more. (newest to oldest)
